Event Details

The Vocal Arts Ensemble goes into French immersion in the reverberant splendor of St. Thomas Church for its first concert of the 2010-11 season!  Our 28 voice chamber choir performs both sacred and secular pieces, in French and in Latin.   Poulenc's "Salve Regina" is contrasted with his earthy "Chansons Francaises";  the seldom-performed Charpentier Messe des Morts and Mouton's "Nesciens Mater" continue in the sacred vein, while selections from Debussy, Ravel and Auric round out the program

The Vocal Arts Ensemble

Since its founding in 1992, the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Ann Arbor (VAE) has maintained a tradition of excellence in the performance of choral music. Begun as a small chamber group devoted to a cappella singing, VAE now comprises some 28 singers in one of the premier choral ensembles in the region.  VAE has a highly varied repertoire, ranging from Josquin to jazz, and collaborates with local artists such as People Dancing and the Ann Arbor Symphony, with which VAE has repeatedly appeared.  VAE has commissioned several original choral works, including “Lady Liberty” by William Bolcom, premiered in May 2009
